Campushopper Blogs - Cropping (cutting) Your Image - Help

How do I crop (cut) my image?
Cutting your image will probably be necessary when you are creating your header graphic (title bar image) for your Campushopper Blog, which recommends an image size of 728 x 96 pixels:

Click the example image at right to see the full-size version, which needs to be cut (cropped).

Open your image in Microsoft Paint. This program can be found from your desktop by selecting 'Start' -> 'All Programs' -> 'Accessories' -> 'Paint'

In the toolbar on the left side, click on the dotted rectangle (the 'Select' tool) next to the dotted star at the top:

Starting at the top right corner of your desired image, click and drag the mouse pointer until you have a rectangle that is 728 x 96 pixels. NOTE: The rectangle's width and height is displayed at the bottom right of the MS Paint window:

You may need to try this several times. To undo your selection, click anywhere outside of
your dotted rectangle. Our selection is shown below:

When you are comfortable with your selection, position the cursor anywhere inside the rectangle, Right-Click and select 'Cut' from the popup menu.

Your desired image will be missing and only whitespace will be visible where your rectangle was, as shown below:

Go to the menu bar, select 'File' and select 'New' from the dropdown. You will then see a prompt asking you if you want to save your changes to the current image. Click 'No'.

You should now be in a blank MS Paint project. Before you paste your image, you have to resize the current canvas to the size of the image. In the menu bar, select 'Image' and select 'Attributes' from the drop-down.

You should now see an 'Attributes' window like the one on the right. In the 'Width' and 'Height' fields, enter 728 for width and 96 for height, then press 'OK':

Note: If you selected (cut) a different size image, enter those dimensions instead.

You should see a blank (white) canvas with dimensions 728 x 96 pixels. Position the cursor anywhere on the white canvas. You'll see the cursor change to crosshairs. Right-click and select 'Paste':

Voila! Your image has been copied (pasted) to the canvas. You are now ready to save your image for upload to the web. In the menu bar, select 'File' and choose 'Save As...'. Enter a 'File name' for your image and save it as type 'JPEG'.

Congratulations! Your done!

*If you want to cut out a different size image, make sure the size of your selection matches the dimensions (width and height) that you enter into the 'Attributes' window.
